Style Spotlight: Alexa Chung

In honor of her third consecutive Style Icon award at the British Fashion Awards, which "recognizes an individual who embodies the spirit of British fashion & is an international ambassador for the UK as a leading creative hub for fashion," I've gathered some of my favorite looks of this iconic model, TV personality and journalist. How does this cat-eyed beauty do it?!

"There was a time when I started thinking about [my style] too much & it got weird but now I just dress to please myself. The main point is I'm still excited by clothes & excited by fashion. It's innately something I'm drawn to so I literally can't walk down the street without dodging into places, which annoys my friends," she told Grazia Daily UK.

From left to right: British Fashion Awards 2012, 2011 & 2010

For this past British Fashion Awards, Chung opted for a black Simone Rocha ensemble.

"This time round, it was a bit of a nightmare. Ordinarily, I'm quite decisive. I look on Style.com & pick things & if they let me, then I borrow it. Other times, it turns into a bit of a disaster in terms of trying to match a shoe... But it's just clothes so it's fine. It's not the end of the world," she says of her trying to choose what to wear to the awards.

However, it was really the Christopher Kane dress that she wore to the British Fashion Awards in 2011 that she considers her favorite outfit "because it was really sparkly, but kept getting caught in
everything."

more of Chung's red carpet looks!

Still, it isn't Chung's red carpet looks that get her noticed! It's her day-to-day outfits that make her the world-wide trendsetter that she is. She always gets it right, even with her unkempt hair and mismatched outfits.

She has been a muse to many fashion designers because of her distinctive personal style. Chung frequents the best-dressed list and is always front row for the hottest fashion shows.

In 2009, designer handbag company, Mulberry, created a hand-bag inspired by this fashion icon called the "Alexa." She has collaborated with J. Crew's offhand brand, Madewell for the past two years.

Even Vogue's Anna Wintour has described Chung as "a phenomenon", while the New York Times has called her "the Kate Moss of the new generation." Chanel's designer, Karl Lagerfeld has noted Chung as "beautiful and clever... a modern girl."

Alexa loves to glam up her denim!

This ultimate style muse was a hipster before it was cool to be a hipster. So what is her stance on this new fad? "My tip is to not be one anymore because I think it's a bit commercial to be a hipster now... so then just turn commercial! That's the ultimate hipster you can be."

Topshop's Prints Charming

South Pacific Safari.

Inspiration: Maroon yourself on style isle with a 90s-inspired mix of Hawaiian florals, rich baroque patterns, and a wild splash of animal print. The sun-drenched beaches of the South Pacific will sizzle!

Palette of choice: Re-create the heady 90s in all its excessive glory! Opulent jewel tones, brash yellow gold, animal prints and neon brights should be thrown together with wild abandon.

The details: ‘Maximum’ and ‘Impact’ should be the words on every South Pacific worthy girls’ lips! Blold prints should be worn from head-to-toe, while no look can have too much gold hardware.

Why we love it: The 90s is one of our favorite fashion eras ever! What’s not to love about a trend that advocates serious fashion excess?

Surf City.

Inspiration: The girl who knows how to navigate a surfboard is riding high on fashion’s radar. SS12 is the season to make waves in sporty separates that have sea-inspired details flowing right through them.

Palette of choice: Aqua, lemon, pink and seaweed are set against bright white and deepest navy. Think tropical fish, sugary seashells and faded neon.

The details: Mermaid metallics, pearly beading and scale-like sequins are styled up with Aztec-inspired prints, graphic embroidery and watery ombre.
Why we love it: We’ve never seen sporty shine so bright! Metallics, beading and patterns have us in their lure and should be mixed-and-matched in a carefree surfer-girl manner.

Whether you're channeling your Hawaii 5-0 meets George of the Jungle or your Little Mermaid turned human look, TOPSHOP has all the prints you could ever need.

I Can See Your Halo... Balenciaga Spring Summer 2013

This halo accessory is no where similar as the halo Beyonce talks about in her slow jam, or the "accessory" that I have to wear as a result of the car accident I was in.

No, I'm talking about the halo-inspired headbands seen in Balenciaga's SS 2013 Collection that I found on the Oracle Fox blog. Instead of wrapping around the head like a halo on an angel (or on a crippled girl suffering from a neck fracture, like me), the halo wraps around the back of the head.

While my halo is made of titanium and is a bland color of dark gray, Balenciaga's headbands are metallic gold, with some adorned with silver, or twiglike pieces.

What better way to make your bedhead chic? A gold headpiece surely makes any outfit more glam and fashionable!

Recognize that black and white ensemble below? Kristen Stewart wore the identical outfit on the red carpet for her Twilight premier! Some other looks from this collection:

For Love & Lemons' Les Femmes Resort 2012

For Love & Lemons has come out with their very first Resort collection-- "Les Femmes"!

For Love & Lemons describes their ideal Resort 2012 girl:
She wanders the French Riviera like she owns it, plucks flowers like they’re the forbidden fruit of long ago, and loves with such intensity, it will forever torment her. The collection cuts between naughty and nice – girlish silhouettes are juxtaposed with cutouts and sheer mesh paneling, while sexy styles are anchored in black or sweetened up with floral prints. Nods to French glamour are woven throughout the collection with bralette tops, teasing Breton stripes, and Can-Can worthy slitted skirts. Through bold and vivacious designs, For Love & Lemons’ "Les Femmes" collection punctuates the fear, insouciance, and growing self-confidence of a woman whose innocence and purity has been stripped away.
After all, God may have created woman, but nobody said she’d be perfect.

Gwen Stefani "Looking Hot" in No Doubt's New Music Video

Gwen Stefani in No Doubt's newest video, "Looking Hot"

No Doubt's newest music video is arousing much controversy concerning its politically incorrect portrayal of Native Americans.

But I'm going to be honest- that is not what I'm paying attention to. Let's focus on the real topic at hand- Gwen Stefani, 43-year-old (like... what?!) singer, mother and L.A.M.B fashion designer looks crazy good!

This iconic trendsetter rocks Indian headdresses, fishtail braids, feathers, fringe, crochet, tribal print and beaded crop tops, along with many more stylish pieces.

I have no clue what designers she's wearing, but as soon as I find out, I will be sure to post it here.

Feathers & braided headband

Tribal printed pants & detailed crop top

Beaded crop top, tribal headband & upper arm cuff

I don't know what that is- but I love it

Red cut-out dress, fishtail braids & tribal accessories

Fringe & crochet bodysuit

Tribal print pants, feather headdress, upper arm cuff & beaded accessories

Stacks on stacks of tribal bracelets

Harrods' Disney Princesses

Cinderella, Aurora, Pocahontas, Belle... The Disney princesses have been a huge part of our childhood and growth into femininity and maturity. Overcoming villains, finding our prince... We have idolized these fictional characters even until today, whether we realize it or not.  For years, I have found myself wanting these iconic women to come into real life- and in a way, they finally have.

I'm not talking about the gorgeous women you stand in line for hours at Disneyland or even the variations of costumes we see on Halloween night that newborns to college sorority girls dress themselves in. I'm talking about at Harrods!

Yesterday, on November 1, Harrods' infamous UK location has finally displayed their versions of Disney's princesses. These princesses have gotten the ultimate makeover. They model more mature and super chic couture gowns of our favorite designers, like Versace, Elie Saab, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, Valentino, Escada, Ralph & Russo and Jenny Packham.

Take a look at each designers' interpretation:

Cinderella in Donatella Versace
"'You shall go to the ball', in a stunning contemporary interpretation complete with golden layers, a tiara, a bold statement-necklace and of course, glass slippers – emblazoned with the iconic Versace medusa motif."

Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) in Elie Saab
"Encapsulating the natural grace and innocence of Aurora, this beautiful gown in pale pink is embellished with scattered exquisite beading."

Pocahontas in Roberto Cavalli
"Featuring soft, golden and natural earthy colours, this gown incorporates prints evocative of dream catchers with pearl detailing. The lightness of a feather and the wings of a butterfly, it is perfect for a princess in love with freedom."

Mulan in Missoni
"A land of silk and jade has inspired this oriental kimono-style dazzling creation, that features bold turquoise shades and red detailing."

Tiana (The Princess & the Frog) in Ralph & Russo
"A dream come true, this mint evening gown with a sweetheart neckline and mesh overlay, features scattered crystals that cascade into a layered tulle skirt."

Snow White in Oscar de la Renta
"'Someday your prince will come…' This silk gown is divine with intricate embroidery across the bodice and a floor-sweeping cape in signature red."

Belle (Beauty & the Beast) in Valentino
"A fantasy-like dress in silk chiffon with a sheer hooded cape and layers of exquisite pleats, is accessorised with bespoke signature studded flats and a silver flower bag."

Rapunzel by Jenny Packham
"A magical dress in pale grey adorned with incredible beading that should never be locked away."

Ariel (The Little Mermaid) in Marchesa
"A chic and elegant deep blue silk evening gown has been beautifully crafted to combine luxurious draped fabrics, which perfectly embody modern feminine style – capturing Ariel’s adventurous under-the-sea spirit."

Jasmin (Aladdin) in Escada
"An exotic fuchsia silk chiffon gown encompasses the fiery beauty of Jasmine, complete with an extravagant golden flower belt."

What do you think of these gowns?

Which ones are your favorites? Personally, I loved Cinderella's, Pocahontas' and Rapunzel's.

If you were a Disney princess, which designer would you want to create your dream gown?
